Democrat Peter J. Barnes III, of Edison, was first sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly on March 15, 2007, filling the unexpired term of his father, Peter J. Barnes, Jr., who resigned to become chief of the State Parole Board. Mr. Barnes was elected to his first full term on November 6, 2007.
Born April 26, 1956, Mr. Barnes received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Gettysburg College; his Master of Business Administration in management from Farleigh Dickinson University; and his Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law. Mr. Barnes is an attorney in private practice.
He and his wife, Katie, have three children.
Mr. Barnes represents the 18th Legislative District, which includes the Middlesex County municipalities of East Brunswick, Edison, Helmetta, Metuchen, South Plainfield, South River and Spotswood.
