Assemblywoman Linda Stender represents the 22nd district of New Jersey which includes Clark Township, Dunellen Borough, Fanwood Borough, Green Brook Township, Linden City, Middlesex Borough, North Plainfield Borough, Plainfield City, Rahway City, Scotch Plains Township, and Winfield Township. Linda Stender resides in Fanwood and earned her B.A. from American University in Washington, D.C. A former member of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, she served as mayor of Fanwood after working on the borough’s council. Currently, Stender is the Vice-Chair of the Assembly Transportation and Public Works Committee and is also a member of Health & Senior Services and Tourism and Gaming. Additionally, as the Democratic nominee for Congress in the 7th Congressional District in 2006 Stender came within one-percentage point of defeating incumbent Congressman Mike Ferguson. Stender is the presumptive nominee in 2008 and will compete for the open-seat, as Ferguson announced his retirement earlier this year. The 7th Congressional race is a targeted election for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and one of the best pick-up opportunities for Democrats nationally.
