Assemblyman Erik Peterson has served in the General Assembly since Dec. 7, 2009. He was selected to finish the term Michael Doherty vacated to join the state Senate after being elected to serve in the 2010-2011 Legislature.
Peterson, who has been involved with politics for almost two decades, began his career in elective office as a Hunterdon County freeholders where he served from 2006 to 2009. He was selected director in 2008 and deputy director in 2007.
Peterson has had an extensive career in law and business and has had his own private legal practice since 2004 and as well as Pep Title Agency. Previously, he was a partner at Large, Scammell & Danzinger LLC from 2000-2003 and Gordon & Peterson LLC from 1998-1999. He was manager at Beneficial Management Corp. from 1988 to 1993.
Peterson lives in Franklin Township, Hunterdon County with his wife, Jenni, and their four children: Sophie Kathryn, Clay Walter, Veronica Helen and Samantha Reagan.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Hunterdon County and is a member of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce and Hunterdon County Bar Association and Milford Lions Club. He has held positions with Pedals for Progress, and Milford Lions Club. He also was a volunteer swim coach at the Hunterdon YMCA.
